Natural and Inexpensive Ways to Whiten Teeth at Home

You no longer necessarily have to undergo expensive teeth-whitening treatments to get that luminous smile, when you can do it at home, using simple products and inexpensive ingredients. Here, we share some natural ways to whiten teeth without expensive products. Added bonus? They have little to no side-effects!

Baking soda
Baking soda has natural whitening properties. It is mildly abrasive and can effectively scrub away stains on the teeth. It also prevents bacteria from growing in the mouth. Simply mix one teaspoon of baking soda with some water. Brush with this paste a few times a week.

Oil pulling
Another ways to whiten teeth without expensive products is to swish oil in the mouth. This is an old remedy that is meant to boost oral hygiene and eliminate contaminants from the body. Swishing oil for 10 to 15 minutes in your mouth daily can help remove bacteria that cause plaque and whitens teeth. You can use sunflower, sesame, olive, or coconut oil for regular oil pulling.

Apple cider vinegar
Mix some apple cider vinegar with water and rub the mixture on your teeth. The acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar will help remove ugly stains on the teeth. However, the same acid can also weaken the enamel so it is important to dilute the vinegar enough. Later, brush your teeth with your regular toothpaste.

Strawberries with baking soda
This simple mixture can also help you whiten your teeth. The malic acid present in strawberries helps exfoliate your teeth, making them shine. Mix some pureed strawberries with baking soda and brush your teeth with it. Let it rest on the teeth for about five minutes before washing it off.

Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide not only kills bacteria in your mouth but also fixes discolored teeth. Dilute this enough in water and gargle for a few minutes. Make sure that it is adequately diluted, as a concentrated mixture or overuse of hydrogen peroxide can cause gum irritation and even toxicity. If the insides of your mouth start to feel discomfort, then spit the solution out immediately.

Turmeric
Turmeric has antibiotic properties and is also a natural dye. You can make a turmeric paste by diluting it with a few drops of water. Apply this paste to whiten stained teeth.

Lemon juice with baking soda
Sprinkle a teaspoon of lemon juice over a pinch of baking soda. This is one among the best ways to whiten teeth without expensive products. Dip the toothbrush in this thin paste and brush your teeth every day with it everyday. The citric acid present in lemon juice acts as a natural stain-remover.

Orange peel
Peel an orange rub its skin back and forth onto the teeth. Orange is acidic and helps your teeth brighten and whiten. Wait for five to seven minutes before your brush your teeth.

Whitening your teeth does not have to be an expensive affair. It can be effectively done at home using natural products. If you intend to have shining and strong teeth all the time, then you can adopt some of these simple and inexpensive, yet effective methods.
